Here an excerpt from Mysterious Universe.

It was a hot summer day on the 11 July, 2007 in the town of Sanmenxia in Henan Province in central China. The humdrum of town life was broken when a man arrived at the local police station to report a frightening ordeal. The man was a poor farmer on the outskirts of the town, close to a natural forest preserve. He reported that a huge, terrifying monster had come out of the forest and killed three farmers … and it was still there!

Giant Killer Wasps!

Killer Wasp

For once I can actually sympathize with the folks at the State Department. Usually I could care less about the goings on there, but the latest threat to them also resides in my own yard. Yes I too am experiencing Killer Wasp Anxiety, or actually my wife is to be exact. This is the biggest wasp I have ever seen. I would compare it to a hummingbird and the way it flies around it actually looks like one. Its big and mostly black, but big is the operative adjective here. A few days ago I was outside talking with my neighbor when we saw this giant skimming back and forth just above the grass. It was zooming all over the place looking for something, perhaps its nest or maybe emerging cicadas. At one point it decided to buzz by us for a closer look. Personally I wasn’t really scared of it since they are pretty much harmless, but it was intimidating to say the least.

Chile Lake

Santiago, Chile-

This news is a bit old, but still interesting. The story here is linked to a website called Earthfiles, but I think I remember seeing this story briefly surface in the mainstream media. Anyways, the quick rundown is a lake approximately 10 acres in size and close to 100 feet deep just vanished leaving behind chunks of ice that had been floating on the surface. Found at the bottom of the lake is most likely the culprit in the form of a huge fissure that must have drained the lake.

“In March we patrolled the area and everything was normal.
…We went again in May and to our surprise, we found the lake had
completely disappeared. The only things left were chunks of ice on the dry
lake bed and an enormous fissure.” – Juan Jose Romero, Reg. Dir., CONAF

Back from the Sunshine State

Vacation….well maybe. The family took a road trip to my homeland for my grandmother’s 90th birthday. Can you imagine all thats happened in that time? For one thing America had just entered World War I. It was a nice family re-union/ birthday party. On this trip we found out the hard way that our youngest, Ava, doesn’t like to be away from home. She was quite exhausting and miserable most of the trip. So needless to say we are not going to be traveling with her again anytime soon. We had a great hotel room and spent some fun time in the pool there. The girls seemed to love swimming, so thats a good thing. So back to the grindstone, and time for more mindless blogging.
